Well buddy you played the best April Fool's jokes on us! We were scheduled for induction early in the morning on April 1st and thought for sure this would be your birthday! Well the morning started with me waking up @ 5:08am.... we were supposed to be AT THE HOSPITAL by 5 am so we rushed around and ran out the door..... When we got there I was so nervous about not having gotten a chance to eat anything, well the nurse came out and told us to go kill an hour or two because the head nurse had gone into labor and they were short handed.... so concerned resolved daddy and I went out to breakfast! Thank goodness we did!! We got back to the hospital and got the ball rolling! Little did I know it was a VERY SLOW ball! ;)
Aunt Louie, Grandmother, Auntie Janet, & Auntie Jen joined daddy and I in the room while we waited you out.... things were steady I was having lots of contractions every 2-6 minutes and was definitely feeling them! I got checked and still the same as when we started.... WHAT??? I was discouraged..... doc talked to me about epidural and I decided to go for it so I could at least rest a little. Again hind site now makes me say, "THANK GOODNESS I got the epi!!"
As day turned to night with still very little progress my cheering squad began to fade.....
Around 1 am things got scary for us! Nurses rushed in and said your little heart was decelerating noticeable with every contraction and the heart monitor was no longer picking you up. I was so scared and so worried that we were going to lose you I prayed and prayed and prayed. We had to do an internal monitor to get your heart rate which was still struggling.... Our nurse Alise was AMAZING! She sat with me and explained everything so well and made us all calm and really did make me feel so safe! I am so appreciative God put her in our lives that day! Basically once my water broke your umbilical cord got wrapped around your little arm so you weren't dropping down enough to make labor progress and it was cutting off oxygen supplies to you and causing the deceleration. Doctor Cooper decided to do an amniotic infusion which was basically stopping all labor (yay...) and filling the amniotic sac back up with fluid so you could move around and get untangled..... You didn't get untangled and the nurse had to manually untangle you..... fun times for me! Unfortunately at this point Aunt Louie had to leave because of her own kiddos and needing to drive home to Vegas.
I spent the next 4 hours turning from side to side trying to get you to move around, breathing lots of deep breaths of the oxygen mask to try and get extra oxygen to you, and praying my heart and soul out!
They got you stabilized and started the pitocin back up since labor had pretty much come to a complete stop. At 5 am the nurse checked again and said 6 cm..... man you are a stubborn little guy! We must have convinced you to give up because by 5:20 we were pushing at 10 cm!! and at
5:34 am April 2, 2013
Timothy Michael Benz was born!
The whole time I was pushing everyone kept saying, "She is right there!!' "she is almost out!" "I can see her head!" I said seconds before you were born, "HE is going to be so mad at all of you for calling him a girl all day!!"
IT'S A BOY! I was finally right :)
Watching them clean you up! I could not stop crying! After a long 10 months and a LONG 24 hours you were here and healthy and oh so handsome!!
our amazing nurse Alise!!
a very tired mom and dad!
you didn't cry when you were born you did these little whimpering meow sounds! It was so adorable like you were complaining to us!
7lbs 14 oz 21in long! Such a big guy!
I was so happy to finally be holding you in my arms! It is the most amazing feeling no matter how many children you have! When they hand you this little baby you have never seen before, but you know so well! Its a reunion between well known strangers and I LOVE that moment more than anything in the world!!! I am so glad you are in our lives now Timmy! You were an entire 24 hours of April Fool's jokes (some not so funny!) You took forever, you had to be all stubborn with your cord, you tricked Aunt Louie into thinking she would finally see a baby be born, and biggest of all you waited until just after April 1st to make you appearance! You will probably be a prankster forever! You are going to be so much fun and bring so much joy to our lives!!
Love,
Mama
