Advent fun

So Z you are getting older and are starting to understand more and more about the holidays which made me feel like I should start with some advent traditions!
I have a few I want to do, but need to go to the store for more supplies and Daddy's work car got totaled on Friday evening so he had to take my mini-van to work..... So I had to stick with a few crafts I already had the supplies for.
First we did our very own advent calendar countdown tree!
Supplies:
Paper
scissors
different color construction paper
rick rack (whatever extra decoration you want)
tape

So it was super simple! You guys  wanted a BIG tree so I free hand cut out a tree about 3ft tall. We taped it to our dining room wall. Than we draped the red sparkly rick rack on the tree for decoration.
Z and I cut out 24 construction paper ornaments. I helped her draw the numbers on them and Georgie decorated them! Than we made a big "Happy Birthday Jesus" star for the top of the tree! We learned about numbers, colors, and got extra excited about Jesus' birthday! You guys can't wait to start putting up the daily numbered ornaments to get to the big star! Z you are still a little confused and kept saying how you really wanted a real tree, but it was just to big for our home...... don't worry little one! We will still get a big REAL tree!

Next we did something I did growing up! It was our first year doing it as a family and I think it will be quite successful! Z and Georgie you both LOVE putting money in the collection basket at mass so this project really got you guys excited!
We always called it "The Baby Jesus Jar"

Supplies:
Any old jar (I chose one with a lid so my young babes won't be able to access the $$)
Construction paper
glue
ribbon

So, I started by measuring out what size green paper we needed. Than we cut out 3 purple candles and one pink and all the little flames! You guys are super into gluing things right now so you glued all the candles on yourselves! Than you colored them with pink and purple crayons. We glues the paper onto the jar and Z, you wanted ribbon so it looked pretty. I asked you guys what types of things you do that make Jesus happy. Z said, "listening to her mom, eating all her dinner, being good, not moving at church, and being a big helper!" ALL VERY GOOD in my opinion! Georgie said, "Eat food. Watch a show." hmmmm interesting........
Either way works for me. We talked about how important it is to share with others what we have including our money! So any good deed or behavior will get you some coins to put in the jar and on Christmas you get to bring your jar to church and put it by Baby Jesus! Z you are SUPER excited by this! So far we already have 85 cents :) More to come hopefully!
Love,
Mama
